Aspire run by budding entrepreneurs from NESCOT in Ewell won this year’s North Surrey Company Programme Showcase organised by Young Enterprise.

Aspire designs, makes and sells self-watering kits for growing herbs and small plants and was judged the student company most likely to succeed. The students established the business six months ago, organised their operations and finances, and sold over £300 worth of their product at their school, at local trade fairs in Woking and Weybridge and online.

Black & Write from Gordon’s School, Woking, Save our Seas from Claremont Fan Court School, Esher and Ladywrite from Notre Dame School, Cobham were the three runners up, and now all four companies go through to the Surrey final to be held at Epsom College on 8th May, with the chance to progress to the South East and national finals.

Aspire also won the best advert competition. Best innovation prize went to Black & Write for their mindfulness and wellbeing bullet journal while RAH Enterprises from Sir William Perkins’s School, Chertsey gave the best corporate presentation. The company that had the best digital presence to boost its trading was Save our Seas.

In total 18 teams formed student companies this year from 11 schools across North Surrey. They have been developing and selling a broad range of products. Their total sales have reached almost £22,000 so far this year.

The schools and colleges taking part In Company Programme are:-

Claremont Fan Court School, Esher
Epsom College
Gordon’s School, Woking
Halliford School
Heathside School, Weybridge
Hinchley Wood School
Notre Dame Senior School, Cobham
Sir William Perkins’s School, Chertsey
St George’s, Weybridge
Winston Churchill School, Woking

The student directors had to learn how to run a company and work as a Board to grow their operations and make them a commercial success. The Young Enterprise Company Programme helps students build confidence, boosts their employability skills, and gives them practical insight into running a business.

We are extremely grateful to our local supporters – Procter & Gamble, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Partridge Muir & Warren and Thorpe Park.
